At Avalon Ranch, our treatment philosophy allows us great flexibility in treating addiction. What works for one resident may not work for another resident. This flexibility, combined with sound clinical practices allows us to progress participants through treatment and into their new sober life. Our program currently features the following components:
MATRIX MODEL
The Matrix Model arises out of academic and clinical work pioneered by the Matrix Institute of West Los Angeles. The Matrix Model places primary emphasis on the needs of individual participants and takes great care in creating an individual treatment plan. The Matrix Model encompasses the following elements: well defined program structure, therapist support, group and individual sessions, 12-step (or similar) involvement, relapse prevention training and extensive family involvement.
INTAKE ASSESSMENT
Our treatment program is predicated on an accurate intake assessment. Through interviews and conversations with residents, their loved ones and their medical providers, Avalon Ranch is able to compile a significant picture of each resident, including:
TREATMENT PLANNING
There is no cure for addiction other than complete abstinence one day at a time. Treatment should be an individual solution to an individual's addiction. Each resident's licensed therapist constructs a treatment plan based on input from the intake assessment, the resident, the Medical Director, outside medical experts, and the other clinical staff. Each plan includes a timeline and interim steps necessary to offer progressive treatment that works.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
During individual therapy sessions with licensed clinicians, Avalon Ranch residents have the opportunity to address specific issues in a private, one-to-one setting allowing them the freedom to be honest with themselves and the clinicians. All of our individual sessions are therapeutic in nature and in service of maintaining sobriety and promoting recovery.
GROUP THERAPY
We believe that group therapy provides an opportunity for each client to experience themselves in relation to their peers, to interact in a safe environment that encourages supportive feedback, and to work through barriers to recovery from addiction. A variety of group modalities including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Stress Reduction, Art Therapy, and Spirituality groups allow each client to fully explore and resolve the issues preventing them from living a sober, recovering life.
EXPERIENTIAL THERAPY
Avalon Ranch makes use of the ample opportunities afforded to us by our ranch setting to offer experiential therapy opportunities in an individual setting as well as within group sessions. These opportunities are tailored to each all levels of fitness and confidence, and include equine therapy, hiking, surfing, and more. Experiential therapy allows residents some enjoyment while teaching communication and coping skills needed for a life of sobriety.
FAMILY COUNSELING
Because addiction never affects one person, it is imperative to help friends and family recover from an addict's addiction. Group family sessions and private family therapy sessions allow us to help family members with the knowledge, skills and support they need to forgive an addict's past and assist with the future.
TWELVE STEP PARTICIPATION
Avalon Ranch's program makes use of the twelve step model to help addicts recover by focusing on personal accountability, forgiveness, and support through fellowship. Addtionally, after graduation, residents have access to a built in support network with meetings and sponsors available at any time anywhere in the world.
