At Avalon Ranch, we believe in the power of individual therapy in the residential treatment setting. Addiction is a painful and lonely disease, and many times, the privacy and safety afforded by indvidual treatment allows residents to make breakthroughs in their treatment. Avalon Ranch offers a number of individual treatment methodologies in support of participant's sobriety:
DRUG COUNSELING
Our certified drug counselors assist addicts in abstaining from the use of drugs and/or alcohol. By emphasizing behavioral goals, drug counseling addresses the effects of substance abuse such as criminal activity, unemployment, and poor social relationships and helps the addict create coping mechanisms and relapse prevention strategies. Many times, our counselors will recommend a twelve step program and other outside referrals, where clinically appropriate.
COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Avalon Ranch uses cognitive-behavioral therapy, also known as CBT, to allow addicts to identify flaws in their behavior that may lead to relapse. Through identification of these behaviors, triggers can be more easily avoided and stronger relapse prevention techniques developed.
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Our licensed therapists provide powerful individual psychotherapy sessions for program participants. Avalon Ranch uses psychotherapy to provide support needed to allow participants to feel comfortable in sharing personal experiences, fears and trauma that may lie at the heart of their addiction(s). This personal information is used to help patients identify and process issues that may trigger substance abuse.
EXPERIENTAL THERAPY
Avalon Ranch makes use of the ample opportunities afforded to us by our ranch setting to offer experiential therapy opportunities. These opportunities are tailored to each all levels of fitness and confidence, and include equine therapy, hiking, surfing, and more. Individual experiential therapy allows residents some enjoyment while teaching communication and coping skills needed for a life of sobriety.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Medical treatment is available to help with detoxification and withdrawal, co-occurring disorders and restoring brain function. During the detox phase of treatment, medications often lessen otherwise agonizing withdrawal symptoms. For co-occuring disorders, medical therapies and medication offer relief from many mental disorders. Finally, emerging medical advances (such as Prometa) are providing addicts with medical tools to restore brain function and render moot the reward seeking behavior that drives addiction.
