Family plays a superceding role in addiction treatment. Family exists before addiction, during active use and endures after treatment is completed. In fact, the role of the family begins prior to treatment. Addicts rarely check themselves into any treatment program of their own free will. Some form of coercion is needed, whether it be financial, social, legal, etc. Family members often are called upon to spearhead the admissions process, sometimes through an intervention. Once an addict is admitted to Avalon Ranch's treatment program, family involvement only increases:
INDIVIDUAL FAMILY THERAPY SESSIONS
When necessary and appropriate, Avalon Ranch facilitates individual family therapy sessions that allow family members to come together in the safety and privacy of an individual session. Individual sessions are particularly useful when dealing with sensitive emotional issues that participants are unwilling or unable to discuss with other participants.
FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS
Family support groups are a safe place for families to learn about addiction, to learn about the role of family in the recovery process, to share experiences, and to provide fellowship to other families affected by addiction.
AFTERCARE
Family involvement is a must once a participant leaves primary treatment. Relapse rates are high, and family members must be able to serve as anchors for the recovering addict. Avalon Ranch maintains regular communication with family members to provide support and resources as needed to support sobriety.
